Sustainable Biodiversity – Effects of Using more wood in construction
By Søren Dietz
In 2020, Denmark decided to create 75,000 hectares of new forest. Biomass will
be needed for district heating in the future, as approximately two-thirds of Denmark’s district heating is currently supplied by biomass from forests. The construction industry is increasingly switching to bio-based building materials. At
the same time, nature in Denmark is under enormous pressure: over half of the
species are extinct or threatened.
